Lundbeck hippocratic oath 1

The Hippocratic Oath is the bedrock of western medicine, and it should apply as much to the makers of medicine as to those who administer it. Reprieve is inviting pharmaceutical manufacturers to sign a new version of the Hippocratic Oath tailored to the pharmaceutical industry.

The Pharmaceutical Hippocratic Oath is an extension of the Hippocratic Oath taken by physicians and pharmacists, and states:

“We dedicate our work to developing and distributing pharmaceuticals to the service of humanity; we will practice our profession with conscience and dignity; the right to health of the patient will be our first consideration; we condemn the use of any of our pharmaceuticals in the execution of human beings.”

By signing the Oath, pharmaceutical manufacturers are expressing their commitment to making medicines for the health and benefit of mankind.
