Luther Pendragon and St. Bride’s Church warmly invite you to Christmas Carols in aid of Reprieve.
This is the annual Journalists’ Carol Service, now in its fifth year, which encourages all generations of journalists to return to their spiritual home in Fleet Street.
We will be raising funds for Reprieve, a charity that fights for the lives of people facing the death penalty and other human rights violations. Reprieve was founded in 1999 by British lawyer Clive Stafford-Smith after he spent more than 20 years defending people facing execution in the US.
Reprieve’s help involves frontline campaign work, focusing on cases of the innocent, people who are mentally ill or learning disabled, women, racial and ethnic minorities, and those detained out of reach of the law in the 'war on terror'. Through investigations, legal representation, campaigns and education, Reprieve targets issues and cases where it can make a difference. It fights for those who cannot afford a lawyer to defend them, and it works to change the legal systems that - casually and systematically - allow fatal miscarriages of justice.
We look forward to welcoming guests from throughout the media, as well as their families and friends, so please spread the word as widely as you can. As well as the famous St. Bride’s choir to keep us in tune for the carols, we’ll have some special media guests - Joan Bakewell, Martha Kearney, William Lewis, Helen Rumbelow and Jon Sopel - delivering a variety of traditional and modern readings. Clive Stafford Smith will give an address on behalf of Reprieve. There will be wine, canapés and entertainment following the service. We’re asking for a minimum donation of £5 a ticket.
All proceeds go to Reprieve.
We do hope you will be able to support this most worthwhile cause and look forward to welcoming you all on 21st December.
