Abdul Aziz Naji
After eight years in Guantánamo, Abdul Aziz Naji was forcibly repatriated to Algeria in 2010. Based on discredited claims and no evidence, he was sentenced to three years imprisonment by an Algerian Court in January 2012. Aziz is represented in the US by Ellen Lubell and Doris Tennant at Tennant Lubell LLC and Reprieve assists him as a part of our “Life after Guantánamo” project.

Abu Wa'el Dhiab
August 5th 2012 was Abu Wa’el Dhiab’s 10th anniversary in Guantánamo Bay. A father of four, Mr. Dhiab was cleared for release by the Obama Administration in 2009; but he remains in Guantánamo after more than a decade without charge or trial.

Abu Zubaydah
Abu Zubaydah is currently being detained in Guantánamo Bay. Falsely suspected of being a high-value member of al Qaeda and the organisation’s Chief of Operations, he has been held in secret prisons around the world for over eight years without trial or charge and subjected to horrendous torture.

Adel Fattough Ali al Gazzar
Religious missionary Adel Fattough Ali al Gazzar was seized during his journey across the Muslim world after being severely wounded by a US airstrike in Afghanistan in 2001. He was released to Slovakia in January 2010. On 13 June 2011, he flew to Egypt to reunite with his mother, wife and children and was arrested.

Adel Hakeemy
Italian resident, Adel Hakeemy, moved to Pakistan to marry and was seized by Pakistani bounty hunters in the aftermath of the September 11th attacks and sold to US forces, who took him to Guantánamo Bay.

Ahmed Belbacha
Former British resident Ahmed Belbacha has long been cleared for release, but needs asylum as he fears return to his native Algeria, which he fled after threats and persecution before being imprisoned.

Ahmed Errachidi was released from Guantánamo on 24 April 2007 having spent five years there falsely accused of being Osama bin Laden’s general and main man.

Palestinian national Ayman al Shurafa has now been released from Guantánamo and is settled in Germany.

Binyam Mohamed
After years of brutal torture and abuse in the US secret prison network, Binyam Mohamed was released from Guantanamo Bay in February 2009. The 31-year old returned to Britain where he is rebuilding his life.

Bisher al-Rawi is a British resident whose family fled Iraq and came to England in 1984, after his father was imprisoned and tortured by Saddam Hussein’s regime. He was released fromGuantánamo Bay in March 2007.

Hedi Hammamy
Hedi Hammamy was seized while living with his wife and baby daughter in Lahore, Pakistan in the Spring of 2002. He was released in March 2010.

Hisham Sliti
Hisham Sliti arrived in Guantánamo Bay after being captured and sold for a bounty to Pakistani soldiers in December 2001. He was then handed over to the Americans in January 2002. Subjected to brutal torture for four months in Kandahar Afghanistan, he was moved to Guantánamo in May 2002.

Jamil el Banna is a Jordanian with refugee status in Britain. He was kidnapped in Gambia in November 2002 and held in US custody until November 2007.

Mohammed Abdulmalik
Kenyan father-of-three Mohammed Abdulmalik was transferred by his own government to US secret prison system. Abdulmalik now waits in Guantánamo Bay, while the Kenyan government refuses to admit responsibility or even accept that he is a Kenyan.

Mohammed el Gharani
Chadian citizen, Mohammed el Gharani was the youngest prisoner in Guantánamo Bay, arrested when he was just 14. In January 2009, a federal judge ordered his release and he was returned to Chad in June 2009.

Nabil Hadjarab
French resident Nabil Hadjarab has been held prisoner in Guantánamo Bay since February 2002, despite being cleared for release for over 3 years. He has not been charged with any crime and has had no trial. Reprieve calls on the French government to bring Nabil home.

Les agents responsables de son interrogatoire l’avait, en réalité, déjà informé de la confusion de son identité avec celle d'un autre homme: sa détention est une erreur. A ce jour, Nabil demeure néanmoins toujours à Guantánamo.

Yemeni citizen, Nadir Mohammed Abdullah bin Sa'adoun Al Sa'ary has been held in Guantanamo Bay since the prison opened. He was arrested in Pakistan and rendered to US custody in Afghanistan before being taken to Cuba.

Said Farhi
On 5 January 2011, Said Farhi was forcibly repatriated to Algeria against his will. Imprisoned by the US since 2001, Said had been fighting a court battle to be allowed to stay in Guantanamo for fear of torture and persecution in his home country. Reprieve has grave fears for his safety.

Saifullah Paracha
Elderly Pakistani businessman Saifullah Paracha was seized in Bangkok on the way to a business meeting in 2003. He was rendered to Guantanamo Bay, where he suffers from a range of serious health problems.

Saleh Sassi
Former Italian resident Saleh Sassi was arrested in Afghanistan and handed to the US military in 2001. A short time later he was transferred to Guantanamo Bay. On February 23, 2010, he was released to Albania.

Samir Nasy Hajan Mukbel
Yemeni national Samir Mukbel was seized in Pakistan as he tried to cross the border without a passport at the outbreak of the war. He has been held in Guantanamo Bay without trial or charge for eleven years.

British resident Shaker Aamer has been cleared for release from Guantánamo Bay but remains imprisoned. Meanwhile, in London, his wife and children await his freedom - he has never seen his youngest son.

Sherif el Mashad
Italian resident Sherif el Mashad has been held in Guantanamo Bay since 2001. He was arrested after crossing the border into Pakistan from Afghanistan, was transferred to US custody, and taken to Guantanamo Bay. In February 2010, Sherif was released to Albania.

Morrocan national Younous Abdurrahman Chekkouri spent five months in jail in Kandahar before being transferred to Guantanamo Bay where he has been incarcerated since 2002 when he was captured in Pakistan.
