To mark World Day Against the Death Penalty, artist Robert Priseman is launching his book No Human Way to Kill at Westminster Methodist Central Hall.
The event will be chaired by Professor Sir Nigel Rodley of Essex’s Human Rights Centre with remarks by artist Robert Priseman and a key-note address by Rev. Cathy Harrington. Reprieve's Sophie Walker will join speakers from Amnesty, Amicus and Penal Reform International.
The Round-Table will continue with question and comments from the floor, followed by book signings. The event is open to press and public.
The launch accompanies an exhibition of Robert Priseman's work at the European Commission's 12 Star Gallery located next door at 8 Storey's Gate, London SW1, from 6 through 16 October.
"No Human Way to Kill’ offers a dethatched reflection on the subject of the Death Penalty. It opens with an essay from Cathy Harrington whose daughter was lost to murder. Cathy negotiated a life sentence for her daughter’s murderer, who had potentially been facing the death sentence. This is followed by an account of life on death row in San Quentin from former Crips gang member Anthony Ross. Then former Texas prison Warden Jim Willett who oversaw 89 executions gives a detailed account of how an execution is carried out. Twelve beautiful drawings illustrate how different countries legally kill." -Robert Priseman
"‘No Human Way to Kill’ presents a graphic account of the death penalty. The etchings and
accounts offer up a strange and original contemplation on a subject which stretches back far, far too long. It is time for the death penalty to end; this book helps us to see why." - Clive Stafford Smith
