In association with the Human Rights Watch International Film Festival, Reprieve are proud to support the screenings of Vadim Jean’s In the Land of the Free.
Narrated by Samuel L. Jackson, this hard-hitting documentary tells the story of the ‘Angola 3’ - Herman Wallace, Albert Woodfox and Robert King - who have spent a combined century in solitary confinement in Angola, the Louisiana State Penitentiary.
Targeted by prison officials for being members of the Black Panther Party and for fighting against terrible prison conditions, they were convicted of the murder of a prison guard – with no physical evidence and no credible eyewitnesses.
A Q&A with Reprieve’s Legal Director Clive Stafford Smith, filmmaker Vadim Jean and film subject Robert King follows the screening on March 24th. Clare Algar, Executive Director of Reprieve replaces Clive on March 25th.
