Clara Gutteridge

As Deputy Director of the Secret Prisons and Renditions team, Clara focuses on finding victims of enforced disappearance around the world, and amassing the evidence needed to reunite them with justice.

Clara has a BA and an MA in Philosophy from Sussex University, and is a graduate of Sussex University Law School where she took the Common Professional Examination.   

She volunteered for Reprieve as a student and subsequently on a short project arranging hearings in the UK and European parliaments focusing on European Complicity in renditions.  

Clara worked for two years investigating European complicity in US renditions and secret detentions,  working with lawyers, journalists, political committees, and national and supra-national investigations across Europe and the US.

For the past year,  Clara has focused on building cases of victims of enforced disappearance involving the US, and locating secret prisons still operating beyond the rule of law.  Clara has a particular focus on the Horn of Africa and and British complicity in the US secret prison system.
