Mark Arnold is a British national who has been sentenced to life imprisonment in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, despite serious concerns with the legal process in his case.
Mark was arrested on 25 August 2008, following the disappearance of his ex-girlfriend, Kerry Winter, on 20 August. Whilst police are yet to find a body, Mark has been convicted of Kerry’s premeditated murder.
At his initial trial, Mark was sentenced to 15 years in prison – however, on appeal this was increased to a life sentence. Despite serious concerns about the manner in which both the investigation and trial have been conducted, the Supreme Court of Dubai has upheld Mark’s life sentence, leaving Mark with very few legal options to pursue.
Reprieve continues to work on Mark’s case, and is exploring what other legal avenues remain open to Mark, as we seek a remedy for the flawed legal process by which Mark’s conviction and sentence were obtained.
