Mark Arnold is a British national who was sentenced to life imprisonment in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, despite serious concerns with the legal process in his case.
Mark was arrested on 25 August 2008 following the disappearance of his ex-girlfriend, Kerry Winter, on 20 August. Mark was been convicted of Kerry’s premeditated murder despite no body having ever been found.
At his initial trial, Mark was sentenced to 15 years in prison – however, on appeal this was increased to a life sentence. Despite serious concerns about the manner in which both the investigation and trial were conducted, the Supreme Court of Dubai upheld Mark’s life sentence, leaving Mark with very few legal options to pursue.
Reprieve continues to work on Mark’s case, and is exploring what other legal avenues remain open to him, as we seek a remedy for the flawed legal process by which his conviction and sentence were obtained.
