Mohammed's incredible appeal response

on 11 October 2011

On Friday we made an urgent appeal for £655 to cover emergency medical costs for former Guantánamo prisoner Mohammed el Gharani, and thanks to an overwhelming response from Reprieve supporters we have raised £1,706: over twice the amount needed! Thank you so much to everyone who made a donation.

We relayed the good news to Mohammed via Reprieve staff who are currently visiting him and he was absolutely thrilled to learn of the number of supporters who came forward to help him. Beyond the fact that he now has access to the medical care that he so badly needs, Mohammed is moved by the sheer number of people offering support. For him, this show of solidarity is an acknowledgement of the injustice which he has endured, and it demonstrates that people want to help him overcome the challenges he faces. He extends his heartfelt appreciation.

Thanks to the generosity of so many supporters we have raised over £1,000 on top of what we needed for Mohammed's treatment. This will provide a much-needed financial boost to our fight for those still held in Guantánamo and for those, like Mohammed, who need the support of our Life After Guantánamo project following their release.

Thank you again for your wonderful support,

The Reprieve Team
