We’re absolutely delighted that Reprieve’s Executive Director, Clare Algar, has been shortlisted as a ‘Voluntary Sector Achiever of the Year’ by Women in Public Life Awards.

The Awards aim to highlight and reward the achievements of outstanding women role models who pursue leadership roles, make a difference to lives in the work they do and inspire others to do the same.

Since leaving the corporate world and taking a massive 6 figure salary cut to join Reprieve in 2008, Clare’s extraordinary leadership and zeal has helped Reprieve achieve outstanding results and global recognition; Reprieve’s vast increase in profile, reputation and outreach in the past two years is entirely to her credit.

Upon joining Clare overhauled Reprieve’s structure, streamlining its work into three departments, each with its own director, allowing Reprieve to punch well above its weight. She has also broadened the scope and beneficiaries of Reprieve’s vital work. Among many other projects, she secured funding for a new project identifying European citizens on American death rows; putting Reprieve at the cutting edge of the fight for US abolition. Recently Clare established a Reprieve Pakistan office, allowing us to work on the ground tackling secret prisons and death penalty cases.

Clare is devoting her life to enforcing the human rights of those denied justice around the world. Her depth of commitment shows an enormously inspiring passion for her cause. The results will be announced on the 23rd September – so please join us in wishing her the very best of luck!
