Last Friday was a spectacular night of music at the Electric Palace in Bridport, bringing The Proclaimers, Billy Bragg, and a crowd of 400 fans together to show support for Reprieve.
The Electric Palace, hub of the Dorset town, was the perfect setting for this intimate concert that featured two incredible acts, and it proved to be a great night for fans, as well as a success for Reprieve.
Folk legend and veteran campaigner Bragg came out first, clearly enjoying the chance to perform in his home town. He sang old favourites like ‘New England’, and dedicated the song ‘I Keep Faith’ to Reprieve’s supporters.
In the interval, comedian Kevin Eldon joined Reprieve director Clive Stafford Smith on stage for a fundraising auction. Items on offer included a meal for two in local restaurant The Wild Garlic, a hamper donated by The River Cottage and even a pair of Agent Provocateur ‘Fair Trial My Arse’ pants, which went for a generous £100.
Following a successful auction, long term Reprieve supporters The Proclaimers took to the stage to perform classics ‘Letter Form America’ and ‘500 miles’, as well as new songs like ‘Love Can Move Mountains’.
When the music finished, fans poured out into the foyer and, following The Proclaimers and Billy Bragg, posed with an ‘L’ symbol to show their support for Linda Carty.
A big thank you to Charlie and Craig of The Proclaimers, Billy Bragg, and all who attended, for a night of fantastic music, loads of support for Reprieve and Linda Carty, and over £1,000 raised in donations.
