Accept a job at Reprieve, and you can never guess quite what each week has in store. Last week was no different.
The makers of In the Land of the Free had kindly donated a life-size replica death penalty cell, on a flat-bed truck. I spent the weekend trying to convince my wonderful and confused parents that their garden was an ideal storage and display location.
Luckily for my folks, the good people at Lush instead offered to store it down at their factory in Poole. I picked up the truck in London first thing on Monday, discovering quickly that cell-bearing trucks have aerodynamics that make barn doors look like streamlined private jets.
Several hours of crawling into a headwind later, and the guys at Lush hoisted the cell off with a fork lift. It’s now wrapped against the weather outside their factory, waiting for the campaigning to start.
We think the cell is a fantastic way to raise awareness of the desperate state of Linda Carty’s case and we are planning to tour the cell around public locations throughout the summer. If you have suggestions for locations or events that you think we should attend please drop an email to info@reprieve.org.uk or post a comment on our facebook page.
