British ex-soldier Danny Fitzsimons is facing execution in Iraq with a hearing scheduled for April 7th. The death penalty can be automatic in Iraq and Danny is the first private security worker to face prosecution in the country.
Danny's Iraqi defence lawyer Tareq Harb visited London last week to discuss the case with both Reprieve and the British government. Danny's parents, Liz and Eric, travelled from Manchester to meet him.
Tareq, Liz and Eric all spoke at a press conference with Clive Stafford Smith at the Institute for War and Peace Reporting on London's Grey's Inn Road.
Liz Fitzsimons made an emotional plea for help and described Danny as showing symptoms of severe mental disturbance.
